1. Who these terms apply to

These terms govern your use of the Handcrafted By Luke website and the purchase of products from us. By placing an order or making a payment, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not proceed.

Handcrafted By Luke is a sole-proprietor business based in South Africa. All transactions are conducted in South African Rand (ZAR) and are subject to South African law.

2. Products

All items listed on this site are handmade leather pieces unless stated otherwise. Photographs aim to accurately represent colour and finish, but due to the nature of natural hide and hand-applied dye, slight variations in grain, dye fade, and tone are expected and are not considered defects.

Product dimensions and weights are approximate. Minor variation in shape, size, and dye between pieces of the same listing is a characteristic of handmade leather goods, not a flaw.

3. Ordering and payment

3.1 Order enquiries

Submitting an order enquiry form does not constitute a binding contract. It is an expression of interest. We will respond by email with a quote, timeline, and payment instructions. Payment is arranged separately after confirmation.

3.2 Direct purchases via PayFast

Where a product has a listed price and a "Buy now" button, you may purchase it directly through our website. Clicking "Pay via PayFast" redirects you to PayFast's secure payment page. Payment is processed by PayFast (Pty) Ltd, an authorised payment service provider. By proceeding you also agree to PayFast's terms and conditions.

A binding sale is concluded once payment is confirmed by PayFast and we issue a tax invoice. We reserve the right to cancel and refund a payment if the item is no longer available or an error occurred in the listing.

3.3 Prices

All prices are displayed and charged in South African Rand (ZAR) and are inclusive of VAT where applicable. Shipping costs are shown separately at checkout and are added to the total before payment is processed.

4. Shipping

4.1 Shipping provider

We ship nationally within South Africa through The Courier Guy (Pty) Ltd and the Pudo locker network. We do not currently offer international shipping.

4.2 How shipping costs are calculated

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on:

  • The parcel size assigned to the product (XS / S / M / L / XL, corresponding to the dimensions and maximum weight of the packaging needed)
  • The service type you select: Pudo Locker-to-Locker, TCG Kiosk, Postnet, Door Delivery (Standard or Courier Parcel), or Express

Rates are sourced directly from The Courier Guy's published rate schedule (effective 6 May 2026) and are inclusive of VAT. No markup is applied. Rates are subject to change by the carrier and will be updated on this site accordingly.

4.3 Delivery times

  • Pudo Locker / TCG Kiosk: 1–4 business days
  • Postnet / Door Standard / Door Parcel: Main cities 3–4 business days · Regional 5–7 business days
  • Express: Main cities 1–2 business days · Regional 3–4 business days (cut-off 11:00 AM)

Delivery times are estimates provided by the courier and are not guaranteed. We are not liable for delays caused by the courier, weather, or circumstances outside our control.

4.4 Risk

Risk in the goods passes to you upon handover to the courier. We recommend photographing the package on receipt. If an item arrives damaged, contact us immediately at orders@handcraftedbyluke.co.za and we will assist in lodging a claim with the courier.

5. Returns and refunds

Because our items are handmade and often made to order, we generally do not accept returns except in the following circumstances:

  • The item is materially different from what was described or agreed
  • A manufacturing defect is present

Contact us within 7 days of delivery with photographs of the issue. We will either repair, replace, or refund at our discretion. Return shipping costs for defective items will be covered by us.

If your item arrives damaged in transit, this is a matter between you and the courier — see 4.4 Risk for how to lodge a claim.

We comply with the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (CPA). Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the CPA.

6. Custom / commission orders

For custom-made items agreed via email or order enquiry, a deposit may be required before work begins. Deposits are non-refundable once work has commenced, except where we are unable to deliver the agreed item. Full payment is due before dispatch.

7. Product reviews

After your order is shipped, or occasionally for past or off-platform customers, we may invite you by email to leave a review of your purchase. Submitting a review is optional.

By submitting a review, you confirm it reflects your own genuine opinion and grant us permission to publish it on this website (including your name, star rating, and review text) and to post a public reply to it. We moderate all reviews before publication and may decline to publish, or remove, any review at our discretion — for example if it is abusive, defamatory, or unrelated to the product.

8. Social media

We maintain accounts on Instagram and Threads (operated by Meta Platforms, Inc.). Content published to those platforms is subject to Meta's terms of service. By interacting with our social media profiles you are subject to Meta's terms and privacy policies — these are separate from and not governed by these terms.

We use server-side API integrations to publish content to Instagram and Threads. This integration does not load any Meta scripts on this website and does not track website visitors.

9. Intellectual property

All photographs, written content, and design on this website are the property of Handcrafted By Luke unless otherwise stated. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use our content for commercial purposes without written permission.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, our liability to you in connection with any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
